Leander is a small city located near Austin in the scenic Hill Country of Williamson and Travis counties. Leander has a small commercial area on Hero Way with restaurants, local service businesses, and chain stores such as Dollar General and CVS. Cherry Creek Catfish serves a delicious selection of Tex-Mex and Cajun-style surf ‘n’ turf, including its signature grilled, blackened, or tortilla-rolled catfish. Saccone’s Pizza & Subs is a casual spot for New Jersey-style pizza and Italian comfort food. Smokey Mo’s BBQ is a local chain specializing in delectable barbecued meats and sides. Farm to Fork rounds out Leander’s dining options with a seasonal menu of tasty meals prepared using organic and locally-sourced ingredients.

In terms of shopping, Red Barn Garden Center has been in business in Leander since 1978. This sprawling garden store covers three acres with its extensive selection of fruit trees, flowers, seeds, plants, and landscaping supplies. Red Barn offers weekly seminars providing expert advice on all gardening-related topics.

Other retail destinations close to Leander include the Lakeline Mall and Round Rock Premium Outlets. Lakeline Mall, which is anchored by Dillard’s, JCPenney’s, and Macy’s department stores, features more than 100 retailers, 17 restaurants and cafes, and an AMC multiplex movie theater. Around ten miles east of Leander, Round Rock Premium Outlets is a large open-air shopping center featuring fashion brands such as Adidas, Coach, Michael Kors, Polo Ralph Lauren, and Tommy Hilfiger. Round Rock Premium Outlets also offers steeply discounted apparel, fine jewelry, and a Cinemark 14 movie theater.

Things to Do

Leander is characterized by sprawling parks and open space preserves. 47-acre Benbrook Ranch Park has adult and Little League baseball fields, batting cages, hiking and bike trails, barbeque grills, a skate park, and a disc golf course. 45.5-acre Devine Lake Park is a popular local spot for fishing and boating. 16-acre Robin Bledsoe Park has lighted synthetic sports fields and a lighted basketball court, walking trails, barbeque grills, an amphitheater, and a Junior Olympic-size outdoor swimming pool with a diving board.

Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge is less than a 30-minute drive west of Leander. The native habitat of two endangered species of songbird, Balcones Canyonlands has a rugged landscape of steep-banked streams and canyons. Around 15 minutes southeast of Leander, Southwest Williamson County Regional Park has numerous sports fields and a large splash pad. Leander’s Crystal Falls Golf Club features a challenging 18-hole golf course that has been called one of the most scenic public courses in Central Texas.

Leander is also around 10 miles from the stunning underground Inner Space Caverns and about 11 miles from Lake Travis. Lake Travis offers many water-based recreation opportunities and is also home to the thrilling 1.3-mile Lake Travis Zipline Adventures course.
